LEED-NC Certification In June 2006, the U.S. Green Building Council awarded the renovated Motherhouse LEED-NC certification, a designation for new construction or major renovation projects. In announcing the certification, the Council called the Motherhouse renovation "a pioneering example of sustainable design," and noted that the project earned certification for "excellence in the built environment and a place among the finest measured green buildings." 2008 Keep Michigan Beautiful Award Keep Michigan Beautiful (KMB) awarded its President's Plaque for the renovation of the IHM Motherhouse. KMB recognizes programs and activities that substantially contribute to environmental improvements, clean up, beautification and site restoration in 2007 EPA Small Business and Congregations In September 2007, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the winners of the 2007 Energy Star Award for Small Businesses and Congregations. 2006 Top Ten Green Projects The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on the Environment (COTE) selected the Renovation of the IHM Motherhouse as one of its Top 10 Green Projects for 2006. The AIA and COTE selected 10 examples of architectural design solutions that protect and enhance the environment. The winning projects address significant environmental challenges with designs that integrate architecture, technology and natural systems. The projects also have made a positive contribution to their community, improve comfort for building occupants and reduce environmental impacts. 2005 Design Honor Award from Faith & Form magazine and The Interfaith Forum on Religion, Art and Architecture (IFRAA) Citing the challenges of preserving the historical significance of the Motherhouse while achieving an ecologically sustainable 21st century community, the project competed against other renovated buildings that support a religious purpose.
Building Award 2003 Michigan Historic Preservation Network presented this award to The Motherhouse Renovation This award is presented once a year to an outstanding rehabilitation project that has made a significant contribution to the preservation of The Michigan Chapter of Associated General Contractors of America presented its top award in recognition of the excellence of an entire project team. To be eligible, the project had to demonstrate excellence in project management, innovation in construction techniques, sensitivity to environment and surroundings, responsiveness to client needs, financial and other contractor's contribution to the community; and exceptional service in areas such as safety, training, employee relations, scheduling, etc.
2002 Clean Air Excellence Award The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Office of Air and Radiation presented this award in recognition for SSIHM's outstanding efforts to prevent pollution and protect the quality of our nation's atmosphere. One of 21 winners, SSIHM is among an elite group that is keeping the nation's environment healthy. 2003 Community Energy Project Grant The State of Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services awarded SSIHM with the Community Energy Project grant for our educational work relative to the renovation project. The award was used to further our educational efforts, including our tour program, to reach many audiences regarding the need to use more renewable sources of energy.
