St. Mary Organic Farm
St. Mary Organic Farm, founded in 1998, is a two-acre farm located in Monroe, Mich. on our 260-acre property. In 2001, St. Mary Organic Farm became a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) organization with approximately 100 members and supporters. It currently operates on a half-acre, growing over 25 varieties of organic fruits and vegetables during the growing season, May through October.

What is Community Supported Agriculture?
CSA was introduced in the United States in 1985 with the intention of building partnerships between consumers and farmers to foster social and ecological responsibility. Unlike most forms of agriculture in which the farmer bears all the risk, a CSA allows members to share the risks and benefits of growing food. CSA members agree to pay a seasonal fee and contribute a minimal number of monthly work hours, which entitles them to a weekly portion of the harvest. Committing to a CSA is more than just access to produce; it involves the deliberate support of sustainable, healthy agriculture. For more information about St. Mary Organic Farm CSA, download the CSA membership application (135 KB), brochure (1.4 MB) and harvest guide (87 KB).
Caring for the Land; Building Community
Today, there are many different types of CSAs in Michigan and around the world. At St. Mary Organic Farm, we offer many learning opportunities to grow good, healthy food using organic methods of food production - methods that eliminate the need for synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Our CSA membership is as diverse and rich as our crops. Members come from around the world and from a variety of religious and cultural heritages.
Spirituality is a key component to our CSA. Hundreds of IHM Sisters, Associates and supporters gather with CSA members every spring to bless the garden, offering worms to work the soil along with us. We have monthly meditations expressing our gratitude for the seasons of life, for the harvest bounty and for the community we share.
We offer educational events on sustainability, swap recipes, do rain dances, make salves, and much more.
Join us as we care for the land and build community.
