Petoskey resident makes
Commitment to IHM Sisters
May 28, 2008

On May 24, Catherine Braun Winnell of Petoskey celebrated her commitment as an IHM Associate with the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM).

Winnell's associate ceremony, with the theme of "Belonging and Gratefulness," took place in her home. Annemarie Askwith, IHM, served as Winnell's vowed companion on the journey of preparation to become an IHM Associate.

Winnell attended Marygrove College in Detroit and holds a bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University. She has worked in education, community organizing, drug dependence advocacy, religious education, outreach advocacy for the poor and many other ministries of service to others. She and her husband, Michael, have four children.

Associates are men and women who have come to identify with the spirit, life and mission of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary community. While maintaining their own lifestyles, associates choose to covenant with the Monroe IHM community for a specific and renewable period of time, focusing especially on areas of their choice, including those of prayer, community and/or ministry.
