The beautiful, 30-page, four-color booklet is an invitation to spend time with the wonder, beauty and vulnerability of creation. Nature Stations, A Meditative Walk, links the universe story, Earth story, our Christian belief story and our personal stories to nurture an awareness of the interconnectedness of all creation with God, Source of all Being. Written by B. J. Schlachter, IHM Associate, and Margaret (Peggy) Schmidt, IHM, each of the nine nature stations includes a descriptive text, a poem by an IHM, an image, reflection questions and simple rituals. The authors say, "We believe nature can heal us, transform us, and connect us more deeply with God as Holy Mystery. Today, planetary survival challenges us as humans to change and make sacrifices for the good of the whole Earth community. God's kin-dom of love, justice, and peace--as taught and lived by Jesus--requires us to respect and to protect all of creation. Being a living memory of Jesus challenges us to be lovers of all creation." Enter into this challenge by taking a meditative walk with Nature Stations, $7. To place an order by credit card, go to Publications. If you wish to purchase booklets by check, please call 734-240-9838, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. EST.
How are you invited to understand your faith in light of recent scientific discoveries? Theologian Mary Ellen Sheehan, IHM, examines these questions in her paper, Four Stories, now available in booklet form. Four Stories integrates our 13.7-billion-year-old Universe story, our 4.6-billion-year-old Earth story, our 4,000-year-old Judeo-Christian story and the 162-year-old story of the IHM Sisters of Monroe, Mich. These interlaced stories serve to stimulate reflection, questions and conversations to help us make meaning out of the realities of our emerging global worldview and our faith. The book costs $10 plus shipping and can be ordered online or by phone by calling 734-240-9700. Renovation receives national award The United States Environmental Protection Agency announced Sept. 12 that the sustainable renovation of the IHM Motherhouse has received the 2007 ENERGY STAR Small Business and Congregations Network Award. Only two other congregations in the country were given this award. This is the eighth award the congregation has received for the sustainable renovation of the Motherhouse, and the second from the EPA. In its announcement, the EPA cited the community's success in attaining energy efficiency and commitment to energy savings.
IHM donors have always been very generous when it comes to supporting the sisters. Now they have a unique opportunity to make life a little easier for the IHM Motherhouse residents. Thanks to an initiative by the IHM Development Office, the sisters have compiled a "Wish List" of items that are not crucial but would enhance their quality of life. Wish list items vary in price. Individuals and groups may also donate a portion of the cost to purchase a specific item. If you would like to donate money for the purchase of a specific item and/or you have questions about the Wish List, please contact the IHM Development Office at 734-240-9860, or e-mail develop@ihmsisters.org. |
