IHM Sisters elect new leadership team

The IHM Sisters elected six members to the IHM Leadership Council. They will serve the congregation from July 2012-2018.

The six sisters elected are Mary Jane Herb, IHM, president; Sharon Holland, IHM, vice president; Helen Ingles, IHM, chief financial officer; Margaret Alandt, IHM, mission councilor; Mary Ann Bredice, IHM, mission councilor; and Patricia McCluskey, IHM, mission councilor. The new IHM Leadership Council members will assume their positions on July 1. More>>

spirituality and culture series

On Thursday, Feb. 9, Rabbi Arianna Gordon provides the Jewish perspective in the IHM Sisters' series, "Culture-Inspired Spiritualities American Mosaic: Women s Experience."

Rabbi Gordon will discuss the rituals and traditions that define Judaism, as well as how Jews have adapted these rituals in contemporary times. More>>


Trio Abelia to perform concert at IHM Chapel

IHM Sisters hold women's
spirituality and culture series

The IHM Sisters' series, "Culture-Inspired Spiritualities American Mosaic" Women's Experience," resumes in February in the Community Room of the IHM Motherhouse.

On Thursday, Feb. 9, Rabbi Arianna Gordon provides the Jewish perspective; on Tuesday, March 13, Anzen M.J. Davenport offers the Buddhist perspective; on Tuesday, April 17, Ruth Carey gives the Quaker perspective; and on Tuesday, May 8, a panel of IHM Sisters provides the Native American perspective. All programs run from 2:30-4 p.m., and are open to the public. More>>


Nuns shine spotlight on sex trafficking during Super Bowl:
Awareness, prevention efforts focus on 220 Indy hotels

Eleven orders of Catholic women religious in Indiana and Michigan are collaborating with state and local officials to curb human trafficking around the Feb. 5 Super Bowl in Indianapolis. Incidents of human trafficking tend to spike with major sporting events such as the Super Bowl to meet the high demand for commercial sex.

The Coalition for Corporate Responsibility for Indiana and Michigan (CCRIM) is sponsoring the initiative. The Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary of Monroe, Mich. (IHM Sisters), are members of CCRIM. More>>


Monroe church choirs to present concert at IHM Chapel

The IHM Sisters' Chapel Concert Series welcomes the new year with the Monroe County Festival of Choirs on Sunday, Jan. 8, at 3 p.m.

Choirs from around Monroe County will gather in the IHM Motherhouse Chapel to perform as a single choir making joyful music celebrating the end of the Christmas season. More>>

IHM Sisters to host educational series on human trafficking

During January and February, the IHM Sisters will sponsor an educational series on human trafficking titled "Slavery is Hiding."

The series includes films as well as a live presentation. All will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the IHM Motherhouse Community Room. They are free and open to the public. More>>

Florida resident makes commitment as associate with IHM Sisters

On Dec. 15, Janet Cameron of Grant, Fla., celebrated her commitment as an IHM Associate with the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM).

Cameron's associate ceremony, with the theme of "A Time For...," took place in the IHM Motherhouse Chapel. Marie Gatza, IHM, served as Cameron's vowed companion on the journey of preparation to become an IHM Associate. More>>


IHM Sister part of the Fonkoze USA Delegation to Haiti

IHM Chapel Concert Series continues with the John Tyner Chorale
Nov. 22, 2011

Take a break from the holiday hustle and bustle to relax with the John Tyner Chorale on Friday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the IHM Motherhouse Chapel.

The chorale will present "A Festival of Lessons and Carols." This unique musical and prayerful experience is modeled after the Christmas Eve service at Cambridge Cathedral in England. The service will include scripture readings by various pastors from the Monroe area and carols performed by both the congregation and the Tyner Chorale. This type of service has been used widely around the world and has become a tradition of the Christmas season. A free-will offering is requested. More>>

On Nov. 17, Audrey Crepeau-Sepp, Karen Haman-Shaw and Nancy Vallieres, all of Monroe, Mich., celebrated their commitments as IHM Associates with the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM).

The associate ceremony, with the theme of "Mary, the Mother of God," took place in the IHM Motherhouse Chapel. Diann Cousino, IHM, served as Haman-Shaw's and Vallieres' vowed companion on the journey of preparation to become an IHM Associate. Marian Harvey, IHM, served as Crepeau-Sepp's vowed companion. IHM retreat to focus on Advent Scriptures and psalms

Kathleen Budesky, IHM, MA, facilitates a mini-retreat focusing on Advent scriptures and psalms, Tuesday through Thursday, Dec. 13-15 at the IHM Motherhouse. Presentations will be held at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.  

Recent Scripture scholarship offers rich insights into the Infancy Narratives found in the early chapters of the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Participants will explore these insights and consider how they can enrich their prayer...and their lives. More>>


IHM presentation to look at Our Lady of Guadalupe in light of science
Nov. 16, 2011

On Monday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m., iconographer Nancy Lee Smith, IHM, offers a presentation titled "Our Lady of Guadalupe" in the IHM Motherhouse Chapel. The cost is $15.

Sister Smith will explain the meaning of the image of the Guadalupe Virgin in the light of new science. According to NASA, the stars on the Virgin's robe exactly fit the constellation of the Southern sky on the night of Dec. 12 when the Virgin appeared. More>>

Handel's holiday classic, Messiah, will be performed at the IHM Motherhouse Chapel on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 3 p.m.

John Tyner will direct the performance, which will include soloists, an orchestra and the chorus composed of singers from throughout Monroe County. Concert tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for senior citizens and students. More>>


"The Five Wounds of the Church: Hope of Healing"
presentation to be offered at IHM Sisters' Motherhouse

On Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 2:30 p.m., in the Community Room of the IHM Motherhouse, Margaret Brennan, IHM, Ph.D., presents "The Five Wounds of the Church: Hope of Healing."

The presentation will reflect on the wounds of the contemporary Church: forgetting the importance of the poor; the hierarchy's focus; self-centeredness; divisions among Christians; and failure to adapt to the different cultures of the world. The presentation will offer hope for healing and invite participants to hear the call to be mystics and prophets. More>>
