Sisters use burn to enhance growth of prairie Much of the five acres of prairie on the IHM Sisters Elm Avenue property will undergo a prescribed burn in the coming weeks - between March 15 and April 30. "Burning is an important management tool for maintaining and enhancing the prairie areas of our Feb. 19, 2010 March 22-24, Brother Joel Giallanza, CSC, will lead the retreat, "The Woman and the Sword: The Sorrows of Mary," at the IHM Sisters' Motherhouse. "The image of Mary as a survivor both of unthinkable blessings and unimaginable woes has always been a Christian ideal to pray to and imitate," notes Judith Bonini, IHM. "Participants will meditate on Mary's sorrows and come to an understanding of how, in the midst of suffering, there is also grace. Like Mary, we can persevere and accept our struggles as paths to growing closer and understanding more deeply the power of her son Jesus." More>>
The IHM Sisters' Chapel Concert Series continues on Friday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m., when "Team Fiddle" performs. Team Fiddle has been performing and delighting audiences for nine years. Founded by music director Robin Bloomberg, the group consists of 20 performers, ages 13-adult, on violin, cello, bass, mandolin, guitar and percussion. The EMU Symphony Orchestra is composed of approximately 70 string, woodwind, brass and percussion music majors, minors and non-music majors.
