IHM Sisters offer weeklong
Centering Prayer Retreat

IHM Associate Mary Ann Carolin will lead a weeklong retreat, with the theme of "Going Deeper," at the IHM Motherhouse Jan. 20-26. The retreat will focus on centering prayer. Centering prayer - traditionally called contemplative prayer - emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God. It is a discipline to foster and serve this relationship by a regular, daily practice of prayer.

Carolin studied under Rev. Laurence Freeman, OSB, director of The World Community for Christian Meditation, as well as under Rev. Thomas Keating, OCSO, founder of the Centering Prayer movement and of Contemplative Outreach, Ltd. She has given retreats throughout metro Detroit, Monroe and Minneapolis.

"The retreat is a time to slow down, to turn to our divine guide," Carolin says. "Although the focus is centering prayer, it will include poetry, quiet reflection, contemplative music and times of silence."

The retreat begins the evening of Sunday, Jan. 20, and runs through noon on Saturday, Jan. 26. The cost is $150 with lunches included; $120 without lunch. Accommodations are not available at the Motherhouse. Contact Arlene Jekielek at 734-240-9699 or ajekielek@ihmsisters.org by Jan. 4 to register.
