IHM Chapel Concert Series continues with the John Tyner Chorale Nov. 22, 2011
Take a break from the holiday hustle and bustle to relax with the John Tyner Chorale on Friday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the IHM Motherhouse Chapel.
The chorale will present "A Festival of Lessons and Carols." This unique musical and prayerful experience is modeled after the Christmas Eve service at Cambridge Cathedral in England. The service will include scripture readings by various pastors from the Monroe area and carols performed by both the congregation and the Tyner Chorale. This type of service has been used widely around the world and has become a tradition of the Christmas season. A free-will offering is requested.
A reception in the Chapel foyer precedes the concert at 6:30 p.m.; there is no cost to attend the reception.
Tyner is the music director at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He has been active in the Michigan School Vocal Music Association and the American Choral Directors Association holding various positions on the boards of both organizations. His choral groups have consistently received superior ratings at regional, state and national competitions.
The first presentation in the Concert Series for 2012 will feature the Monroe County Festival of Choirs on Sunday, Jan. 8, at 3 p.m. Choirs from around Monroe County will gather to make joyful music celebrating the end of the Christmas season. A free-will offering is requested. Dinner will be offered in the Triple Dining Room following the concert. The cost is $20 per person; tickets are available online at www.ihmsisters.org or by calling 734-240-9860.
Proceeds from the concerts and dinner go toward the Chapel Preservation project.
