Pittsburgh native received as Novice of IHM Sisters Aug. 27, 2008
On Sunday, Aug. 24, Jill Kress was received as a novice of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHMs) at a special ceremony during Mass at the IHM Motherhouse in Monroe.
Kress first met the IHMs in 1999 while working as a volunteer at Crossroads of Michigan in Detroit. She later lived with members of the community prior to moving to Chicago to continue her education.
She returned to Detroit frequently during those years, and her call to religious life grew stronger.
"I was attracted to join a religious community that is active, engaged in the world and its needs, and committed to justice and the liberating mission of Jesus," Kress said.
Kress is the daughter of Richard and Lois Kress. She is a native of Pittsburgh and holds master's degrees in theology and social work from Catholic Theological Union and University of Chicago. She worked as a campus minister at the University of Detroit Mercy for three years prior to entering the IHM novitiate.
As a novice, she will continue to study spirituality and IHM community history, do volunteer work at the Motherhouse to enter more deeply into the spirit of the congregation and spend time in reflection and prayer. |
