Thousands of people are participating in hundreds of events across the country for Food Day, celebrated in late October. The IHM Sisters are hosting the final Monroe County Food Day event on Sunday, Oct. 23, from 1-4 p.m. at St. Mary Organic Farm, located behind the IHM Motherhouse. Come and enjoy demonstrations of "putting up" food, tilling and composting. Kids will enjoy wading in corn kernels, eating local apples and playing with bubbles. Learn about nutrition, recipes, honeybees, bats, butterflies, native plants and fruit trees. See a live demonstration by a draft horse tilling the "the old timey" way at 2 p.m. Bring a non-perishable food item to help feed the hungry. Food Day is modeled after Earth Day. It is intended to generate recognition for "real food" and the challenges we face regarding the food we produce and eat. Food Day promotes access to safe and healthy food for all and supports sustainable farms. For more information, contact IHM Ecology Director Return to News Releases page |
