"The Iraq War: Five Years Too Many and No End in Sight"

The IHM Justice, Peace and Sustainability Office and Monroe for Peace and Justice will host two events to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War.

On Saturday, March 15, the two groups will host a screening of the film, No End in Sight, at 1:30 p.m. in the IHM Motherhouse Community Room. No End in Sight was nominated for best feature length documentary at the 2007 Academy Awards. U.S. officials, American soldiers, prominent analysts and Iraqi civilians provide a candid retelling of the events following the fall of Baghdad in 2003.

The film will be followed by a march to the corner of W. Elm Avenue and Monroe Street (near the Custer Statue) for a "Five Years Too Many" rally and prayer service which will begin at 4 p.m. Participants are asked to bring colorful banners and signs reflecting the "Five Years Too Many" theme. Both events are part of the national "Five Years Too Many" national action campaign marking the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War.

"Five years is a tragic milestone," commented rally organizer Sarah Nash. "Most people now recognize that the war in Iraq was a mistake. It has gone on long enough, and five years is an appropriate time for us to take stock of why it happened, to call upon our elected officials to do everything they can to end it quickly and responsibly, and to do what we can to prevent anything like it from happening again."

The film screening and rally are free and open to the public The IHM Motherhouse is located at 610 West Elm Avenue, Monroe, Mich.
