2011-2012 IHM Chapel Concert Series
features something for everyone

From Handel's Messiah to a gospel trio, the 2011-2012 IHM Chapel Concert Series features something for everyone.

The season kicks off on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m. with organist David Troiano performing "In Praise of Women: Organ Music For, About and By Women." Troiano has performed hroughout the North America and Europe. With particular focus on the organ music of the Spanish baroque and the Spanish-speaking world, he has given lectures and recitals at American Guild of Organists' regional meetings and symposia of Spanish and Latin-American music. He holds a DMA degree in organ from the University of Michigan. A free-will offering is requested.

The annual holiday favorite, Handel's Messiah, will take place on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 3 p.m. John Tyner will direct the performance of Monroe County community singers. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $7 for senior citizens and students. They may be ordered by calling 734-241-3660.

On Friday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m. the John Tyner Chorale will present "A Festival of Lessons and Carols." This unique musical and prayerful experience is modeled after the Christmas Eve service at Cambridge Cathedral in England. A free-will offering is requested.

The first presentation for 2012 will feature the Monroe County Festival of Choirs on Sunday, Jan. 8, at 3 p.m. Choirs from around Monroe County will gather to make joyful music celebrating the end of the Christmas season. A free-will offering is requested.

Trio Abelia, an ensemble comprised of Denise Root Pierce on horn, keyboardist David Palmer and Geralyn Giovannette on oboe, will perform on Friday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. A free-will offering is requested.

On Sunday, March 25, at 3 p.m., the Madrigal Chorale of Southfield performs under the direction of Robert A. Martin, Ph.D. The chorale is comprised of 60 men and women committed to excellence in vocal music performance. A free-will offering is requested.

Gospel trio OneAchord performs on Sunday, April 22 at 3 p.m. Their first single, "Everything Good," received nationwide radio play; they are currently at work on an exciting new project. A free-will offering is requested.

The Concert Series concludes its season on Sunday, May 20, at 3 p.m. with The Licorice Chicks, a nine-member clarinet choir. Members are all from the Monroe/Toledo area and their repertoire includes classical pieces as well as more popular works. A free-will offering is requested.
