Chapel Concert series continues

Feb. 8, 2008

Get in the St. Patrick's Day spirit with a Celtic program on Sunday, March 9, at 2:30 p.m., part of the Chapel Concert Series at the IHM Sisters' Motherhouse.

The concert features Cecelia Webster playing the harp and hammered dulcimer, and Michael Baker on guitar and vocals. The duo, from Grosse Pointe, Mich., will perform a variety of Celtic folk songs, including jigs, reels and songs of love and remembrance.

Webster has been a musician on staff at Henry Ford Museum and a harpist at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, Mich. She has performed at venues such as the Philadelphia Folk Festival, California Traditional Music Festival, Great American Dulcimer Festival of Kentucky and at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. She has also played for Easter services at the IHM Motherhouse for the past several years.

Baker has extensive background in church music, serving as cantor and choir member in several parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit. He is the leader of the Celtic band, "Modesty Forbids," based in metro Detroit. He also performs in "40 Buffalo," playing rock and country music. He opened for musician Ricky Skaggs at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

A free-will offering is requested. The next presentation in the Chapel Concert Series will be held on Sunday, April 20, at 2:30 p.m., when the Monroe County Church Choral Festival takes place.

The Motherhouse is located at 610 W. Elm Ave., Monroe, Mich.
