IHMs have a long-standing commitment to human services. Currently IHMs serve as administrators, principals, superintendents, college administrators and financial managers. More recently, IHMs have expanded the role of administration into health care. 
IHMs serve in mental and physical health care as psychologists and psychotherapists, nurses and legal advocates. IHMs also serve as clinical social workers, guidance counselors, community organizers and advocates for the disadvantaged.
