Overseas

IHMs have served on the Continent of Africa since 1969. Currently, IHMs serve in Uganda and the Republic of South Africa in leadership positions as administrators, directors of religious education, pastoral ministers, and college professors.

The IHM Sisters first began working in Cayey, Puerto Rico in 1948.  From that time until 1973 the predominate ministry in Puerto Rico was that of staffing parochial schools in Cayey, Santurce and Adjuntas as well as ministering at the Catholic University in Ponce.

Today there are six sisters ministering in Puerto Rico.  The six sisters represent a variety of ministries. Two of them are elementary school teachers, one is a professor of English at University Politecnica of Puerto Rico, two are involved in pastoral ministry, one is a psychologist ministering at a community clinic and one sister from Puerto Rico is pursuing graduate studies at Ohio State University.

The IHM Sisters began ministering in Mexico in 1985. There are currently two sisters in the Juarez area. They are doing pastoral work with the urban poor and striving to build ecclesial base communities.
