In the fall of 2005, Sister Joan (Joseph Andre) Charnley (pictured at left, center) re-opened the former Bishop Borgess Catholic High School in Redford, Mich., after its closure by the Archdiocese of Detroit. Sister Joan serves as principal of the school.
 With close to 150 years of experience between them, three retired IHMs, Sister Marie Cyril Delisi, Sister Mary (Marie Rosary) Laird, and Sister Alice (Raphaela) Baker (pictured at right) recently opened Epiphany Education Center on Detroit's Eastside, providing one-on-one tutoring to elementary students whose Catholic schools were recently closed. These IHM Sisters felt compelled to provide educational support and assistance in a Catholic environment and they have welcomed students without charge since the fall of 2005.
The Michigan Catholic recently featured several Archdiocesan Catholic schools, including St. Mary of Redford, where current Principal Sister Loretta (Vincent de Paul) Schroeder ministers, as well as former co-principals Sister Katherine (Mary Eugene) Seidenwand and Sister Joan (Gerardine) McGrath who now daily volunteer their talents.
Sister Michele Denton (right), one of the newest IHMs, served at St. Martin de Porres in Detroit and is now teaching religion and other classes at the IHM-sponsored Marian High School in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
