IHM Action Announcements

Act Now

"Human trafficking will never be truly defeated without eliminating the consumerism, which feeds it, and prosecuting those actors in receiving countries, including our own, that benefit because of the exploitation of vulnerable human beings."

- U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, 2007

Human Trafficking Campaign Updates

After a brief hiatus for Chapter and Elections, the IHM education and conversation series on human trafficking will resume tonight (Thursday, Feb. 2) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the IHM Motherhouse with the film "The Whistleblower." It is a 2010 drama based on the experiences of Kathryn Bolkovac, a Nebraska police officer who served as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia and outed the U.N. for covering up a sex trafficking scandal. Next Thursday, Feb. 9, the series will conclude with the film "The Fields of Mudan." This is an award winning short film which will allow ample time for in depth discussion and wrap-up.

The IHM Leadership Council recently endorsed a sign-on letter in support of HR 2759, the "Business Transparency on Trafficking and Slavery Act." The bill requires companies with a minimum of $100 million in gross receipts to report to the SEC and on their website about efforts to address trafficking and slavery within their organizations. Click here to read more about this endorsement and to read the letter.
