St. Mary Academy - Monroe, Mich., Class of 1961
Michele Lipinski Matuszewski, St. Mary Academy, Class of 1961, provides a report on the class's 50th reunion.
"We met May 14. Along with our class were members of many other classes. (Remember Sister Margaret Mary Look's diligence at maintaining our SMA Alumnae Association?) The class celebrating its 25th was also honored as were classes celebrating reunions in five-year increments. As we dwindle in numbers, we would love to have all Academy alumnae join us in Monroe for Mass and/or lunch every year. This event is always on the Saturday after Mothers' Day. Walk-ins are welcomed!
"Our big day began with a 9 a.m. 'meet and greet' with our former IHM teachers and then a most beautiful Mass (memorializing our deceased classmates as well) in the IHM Motherhouse Chapel at 10 a.m. We were blessed to have Bishop Tom Gumbleton officiating.
"We then went to the old SMA Triple Dining Rooms (available for all types of events - I must get that plug in!) for lunch. Luncheon music was provided by Sister Rose Carmel Burgess who then led us in a rousing rendition of 'Fling Wide Our Banner!' Alleluia, Amen! As has become our SMA Reunion Day custom, a microphone was circulated around the room so everyone present could introduce herself and pass on some memories or good thoughts. We hear the best stories from the good sisters who either graduated or taught at SMA. You know, they just didn't miss a trick!
"As Golden Jubilarians, the Class of '61 had more than 60 members in attendance. A great 'Memories Booklet' was put together with the talents of Robert and Thelma Lee (Cote) Peper. (We have an extra copy for the SMCC/SMA/CC Alumnae Archives at SMCC. Other classes are encouraged to submit an extra copy of their booklets as well.)
"A smaller reception was held in the evening at a hotel conference room - where even husbands got involved with our big day!
"Because of the formal reunion, the Class of '61 has decided to meet for lunch every other month. Contact Shar Theisen-DeSloover at shar28ruff@charter.net."

Immaculata Makes Music
In April when Eileen Kelly, IHM Associate (and former IHM Sister Borromeo) died, alumnae recalled fond memories of the school, its music program and the role Eileen played in making this concert recording. This CD is a recording of the freshman, sophomore and concert choirs in 1967 at Immaculata High School. It is in Eileen's memory that this CD is reproduced and offered here. There is no charge for the CD, only a modest fee for copying and mailing. Click here to order: Immaculata Makes Music CD
If you were taught by IHM Sisters and have photos of your class reunion you'd like to see featured on the IHM website, please send them to Molly Hunt at mhunt@ihmsisters.org.
