Immaculata Makes Music
In April when Eileen Kelly, IHM Associate (and former IHM Sister Borromeo) died, alumnae recalled fond memories of the school, its music program and the role Eileen played in making this concert recording. This CD is a recording of the freshman, sophomore and concert choirs in 1967 at Immaculata High School. It is in Eileen's memory that this CD is reproduced and offered here. El Colegio La Merced students

In 1948, the IHM Sisters began their ministry in Cayey, Puerto Rico, teaching at El Colegio La Merced, the elementary school of the local Catholic parish. Additional grades were added over the next decade and, in 1961, the first high school graduation took place.
In August 2010, IHM Associate Isabel Santiago, who graduated from Colegio La Merced, arranged a visit to the Motherhouse for several of the school's graduates.
Alumni Judith (Angeles) Ortiz, Walkeria Porto, Alfonso Benet, his wife, Evelyn Escalera, and Isabel spent time with Sister Rita Rennell who had taught the group her first year in Puerto Rico. Before they left, they presented her with commemorative award sponsored by the first, second and fourth graduating classes. Sister Rita accepted on behalf of all IHM Sisters who had ministered at Colegio La Merced. |

It says, in part, "...to those who have taught us with excellence, ministered to us, and prepared us for a life of love in Jesus Christ: we thank you. You have never been, nor will you ever be, forgotten!"
"When I go to Puerto Rico, the first thing alumni ask is 'How are the sisters?'" Isabel says. "Their ministry was and is greatly appreciated, and even after so many years, we remember them with gratitude. Most of the La Merced graduates went on to college and became doctors, lawyers, engineers and teachers, both in Puerto Rico and around the world."
Former IHMs, IHMs reunite
The weekend of April 17-18, 2010, the IHM Sisters invited all who have made the IHM journey - vowed sisters, associates and former members - to a reunion at the IHM Motherhouse. The reunion included prayer, presentations, tours of the new campus spirituality center and St. Joseph Art Studio, as well as breakout sessions on spirituality for the later years, musings on the role of women in the church and updates on congregational news and ministries.
