Abraham, Rose Ange, IHM
March 3, 1913 - Jan. 7, 2008

Sister Rose Ange Abraham, IHM, was one of six children, two boys and four girls of Max and Anna (Cook) Abraham. She was born in Detroit and given the name Margaret. She attended St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Detroit and high school at Immaculata, Chicago, and then graduated from Girls' Catholic Central in Detroit. She became a member of the IHM in 1931, taking the religious name of Sister Rose Ange.

Sister Rose Ange earned a bachelor's degree from Marygrove College and master's degree from the University of Detroit. She taught in formal education for 50 years at St. Philip, Battle Creek; St. Mary of Redford, St. Francis de Sales, Holy Redeemer and Immaculata, Detroit; Hall of the Divine Child, Monroe; St. Thomas, Ann Arbor; Sacred Heart, Dearborn; St. John, Fenton; and St. Vincent, Pontiac.

After 12 years of teaching at Immaculata High School on the campus of Marygrove, Sister Rose Ange took up residence at Gesu Convent and assumed a position at Marygrove College, working for 13 years as data entry clerk. She enjoyed sewing, reading, card playing and gardening. Sister Rose Ange retired to the Motherhouse in Monroe in 2002 and was admitted to the Health Care Center in 2005 where she resided until her death. She was 94. Read Sister Rose Ange's Remembering.

Dolan, Stella, IHM
Sept. 13, 1919 - Nov. 30, 2007

Sister Stella Dolan was one of two girls of James and Katharine (Brennan) Dolan. She was born in Pueblo, Colo., and given the name Olive Mary. Sister Stella attended Gesu and St. Mary of Redford Elementary Schools and graduated from St. Mary of Redford High School in Detroit. She became a member of the IHM in 1938, taking the religious name of Sister Stella.

Sister Stella earned a bachelor's degree from Marygrove College and master's degree from the St. Louis University in Missouri. She taught in formal education for 35 years at St. Joseph and St. Mary Academy, Monroe; St. Rose, St. Martin, St. Francis de Sales, and Immaculata, Detroit; Immaculate Heart of Mary, Westchester, Ill.; and Marian, Birmingham, Mich.

In 1975 Sister Stella was secretary and assistant to the director of the IHM Social Action Center in Detroit followed by three years in the Northwest Province as secretary and education consultant. She ministered at St. Martin de Porres Parish in Warren, Mich. in pastoral ministry for five years. As a dedicated advocate for social justice, Sister Stella in 1986 went to Texas and was a poverty worker at Centro La Posada and provided service to Central American refugees at Annunciation House in El Paso. In 1996 she returned to Detroit for seven years of service to refugees at Freedom House in Detroit. In 2003 Sister Stella entered the Health Care Center in Monroe and remained there until her death. Siefker, Agnes (Mary Kenneth), IHM
April 20, 1915-Nov. 17, 2007

Sister Agnes was one of 10 children, four boys and six girls of John and Flora (Lampe) Siefker. She was born on April 20, 1915 in Milan, Mich., and given the name Agnes. Sister Agnes attended Mooreville Elementary School and graduated from Milan High School. She became a member of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe in 1933, taking the religious name of Sister Mary Kenneth.

Sister Agnes earned a bachelor's degree from Marygrove College and a master's degree from the University of Detroit. She taught in formal education for 39 years at St. Joseph, Monroe; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Emmett, Mich.; St. Joseph, All Saints, St. Patrick, Holy Redeemer, St. Agnes and Annunciation, Detroit; Sacred Heart, Dearborn, Mich.; Sacred Heart, Roseville, Mich.; St. Felicitas, Chicago; St. Michael, Flint, Mich.; and St. Mary, Akron, Ohio.

In 1974 Sister Agnes studied at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor in the LPN program. She returned to the Motherhouse in Monroe as an LPN in the Health Care Center until 1991. Sister Agnes retired in 1991 and was admitted to the Health Care Center in 1994 where she resided until her death. Cousino
, Audrey, IHM
Sept. 8, 1911 - Oct. 11, 2007

Sister Audrey Cousino, IHM, was one of 10 children, three boys and seven girls of Arthur and Loretta (Benore) Cousino. She was born in Erie, Mich., and given the name Dorothy. Sister Audrey attended elementary and high school at St. Joseph, Erie. She became a member of the IHM in 1928, taking the religious name of Sister Audrey.

Sister Audrey earned a bachelor's degree from Marygrove College and a master's degree from the University of Detroit. She taught for 46 years at St. Joseph, Monroe; St. Cecilia, Detroit; St. Mary, Lorain, Ohio and for 23 of those years she was principal at St. Felicitas, Chicago; Sacred Heart, Roseville; St. Matthew, Detroit and St. Mary, Mt. Clemens. While ministering in Macomb County, Sister Audrey received the "Outstanding Service to Citizens of Macomb" award.

In 1975 Sister Audrey began her years of service at the IHM Motherhouse. She served as a nurse's aide for four years, and in 1979 she began 18 years as sacristan in the Motherhouse Chapel. This entailed preparation for daily Mass, all community celebrations and special occasions. She retired in 1996 but continued to minister in many ways, especially as Eucharistic minister to senior citizen residents at Norman Towers, Mercy Memorial Nursing Center and the Health Care Center. Hohl, Mary Cabrini, IHM
July 4, 1923 - Sept. 22, 2007

Sister Mary Cabrini, IHM, was one of four children, one boy and three girls, of George and Letitia Huttinger. She attended several elementary schools and graduated from St. Martin High School in Detroit. She became a member of the IHM in 1945.

Sister Mary Cabrini earned a bachelor's degree from Marygrove College; a master's degree from the University of Detroit; and a Ph.D. from Wayne State University. She ministered in formal education for 50 years at St. Mary Academy in Monroe; Blessed Sacrament, Detroit; St. Mary, Akron, Ohio; Catholic Central High School, Redford; and Marian High School, Bloomfield Hills, Mich. She also taught at Madonna University in Livonia and Shaw College in Detroit. For 16 of these 50 years, Sister Mary Cabrini taught at Marygrove College.

Sister Mary Cabrini's skills in research and as a resource person were used for consulting, program analysis and computer services and analysis. She retired to the IHM Motherhouse in Monroe in 1997 and entered the Health Care Center in 2003 where she remained until her death. She was 84. Here is her Remembering.

Hurley, Mary Zachary, IHM
Nov. 8, 1912 - Sept. 20, 2007

Sister Mary Zachary was one of nine children, four boys and five girls, of James and Ellen (Dillon) Hurley. She was born in Detroit, attended All Saints and Holy Redeemer elementary schools and graduated from All Saints High School. She became a member of the IHM in 1931.

Sister Mary Zachary earned a bachelor's degree from Marygrove College and a master's degree from Wayne State University. She ministered in formal education for 38 years at St. Charles, Newport; St. Felicitas, Chicago; Hall of the Divine Child and St. Mary Academy, Monroe; St. Joseph, Erie; St. Mary, Wayne; St. Catherine, St. Gregory, St. Boniface; Holy Redeemer and St. Vincent, Detroit; St. Patrick, Carleton; and Holy Cross, Marine City.

From 1969 to 1995, except for five years at St. Vincent, Sister Mary Zachary ministered at St. Joseph Parish in Trenton in pastoral ministry and religious education. From 1996 to 2000 she resided in Trenton and did volunteer work. Sister Mary Zachary retired to the Motherhouse in Monroe in 2000 and entered the Health Care Center where she remained until her death. She was 94.

Sister Mary Zachary is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mrs. Agnes Truax, Mrs. Rita Cooney, Mrs. Elizabeth Maher, Gertrude and brothers, Thomas, James, John and William. We invite you to read her Remembering.

Baker, Ellen (Mary Carl), IHM
Jan. 23, 1923 - Sept. 4, 2007

Sister Ellen was one of six children, three boys and three girls of Carl and Helen (McCann) Baker. She was given the name Frederica Ellen. Sister Ellen attended St. Mary Elementary School and St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. She became a member of the IHM in 1941, taking the religious name of Sister Mary Carl.

Sister Ellen earned a bachelor's degree from Marygrove College and master's degree from the University of Detroit. She taught in formal education for 33 years at St. Michael, Flint; St. Martin, Detroit; St. John, Benton Harbor; St. Thomas, Ann Arbor; St. Mark, Cleveland; Our Lady of Lourdes, River Rouge; St. Charles, Coldwater; St. Anne, Warren; Immaculate Heart of Mary, Minnetonka, Minn., and Marian High School, Bloomfield Hills. From 1971 to 1976 Sister Ellen taught and was counselor at St. Matia Mulumba Scholasticate and St. Maria Goretti in Uganda.

Starting in 1977, Sister Ellen ministered at the IHM Extension Service in Detroit as a teacher in Adult Public School Education (APSE). During this time she was on staff at the Hospitality House in Detroit for three years. Sister Ellen was pastoral minister in the Christian Service Office at St. Cyprian Parish in Riverview for nine years. After two years at Visitation House of Prayer in Monroe, she became social ministries director at St. Joseph Parish in Trenton, Mich. She retired to the Motherhouse in Monroe in 2002 and was admitted to the Health Care Center in 2004, where she resided until her death. She was 84. Here is her Remembering.

Petrikin, Jeanine, IHM
July 27, 1920 - Aug. 20, 2007

Sister Jeanine Petrikin, IHM, 87, was born in Johnstown, Penn., and given the name Helda. Sister Jeanine attended several elementary schools in Johnstown, Penn. and Flint, Mich. She graduated from St. Matthew High School in Flint. She became a member of the IHM in 1938, taking the religious name of Sister Jeanine.

Sister Jeanine earned a bachelor's degree from Marygrove College. She ministered for 29 years in formal education at St. Joseph, Monroe; St. Francis de Sales, Our Lady of  Good Counsel, Holy Redeemer in Detroit; St. Mary, Wayne; Our Lady of Lourdes, River Rouge; Holy Name, Birmingham; and Holy Ghost, Albuquerque, New Mexico.

From 1969 to 1972 she ministered on several missions doing tutoring, remedial reading and adult basic education. After these three years she returned to Monroe assisting at the Motherhouse College Library as a receptionist and pharmacy assistant. During this time she also worked as part-time library assistant at St. Mary Academy. In 1987 she retired, and in 2001 she entered the Health Care Center where she resided until her death. She was 87.
